Description
This is a late 40s early 1950s Japan souvenir jacket. The original owner was a veteran of WWII, 8th army. According to his son his father's last posting was in Pusan, South Korea prior to the beginning of the Korean War.
The jacket is a heavy weight, padded, quilted rayon satin jacket, embroidered with tigers, dragon and a map of military bases and cities in Japan at the end of the war. Many of the cities depicted were heavily bombed. The jacket has the cording that was used in the post war period, a rather crude steel metal zipper marked "Speed", knit collar and cuffs and slash pockets with piping.
Condition is remarkable for the age of the jacket. It has one area on a sleeve that has light colored spots that look like water, a small stain on the collar, a really small hole on the front that looks like a cigarette ash and minor soiling around the cuffs. Otherwise it is very clean with no holes in the knit collar and cuffs and with a few places on the quilted side where the quilt stitching is loose. The light burgundy and pale silver side looks not to have been worn much if at all.
Jacket is a size men's large: Chest: 46", Zipper Length: 22 1/2", Sleeve Length from Pit to Cuff: 22", Waist Unstretched: 36".
